The monthly mean temperature all year around was above 18℃ in Kaohsiung and Pingtung area. So, tropical Plamaceae cultivation was suitable for this district. There was few horticulturist paid attention to germplasm collection and utilization of Plamaceae in Taiwan. Thus, the objectives of this experiment are to collect the germplasm of Plamaceae and to investigate their horticultural characteristics.

　At present, 42 species from 29 genera of Plamaceae were collected, out of which, 7 species were suitable for heavy shading, 19 species for medium shading and 16 species were growing better without shading. Regarding to leaf growth rate, 11 species were graded as faster, 15 species slower and another 16 species were graded as moderate.

　For plant utilization, 4 species were suitable for pot plant, 20 species for garden plant, and 16 species were suitable for both pot and garden plant. In addition, 2 species were suitable for leaf cutting.
